The Iowa Wild is a professional ice hockey team based out of Des Moines, Iowa that competes in the American Hockey League. Founded in 1994 andoriginallycalled the Houston Aeros, in 2013, the team moved to Des Moines, where it competes at the Wells FargoArena. An affiliate of the NHL's Minnesota Wild, several Iowa Wild players have gone on to have illustrious careers competing in the NHL.
The Canadian-bred Nickelback, led by raspy vocalist Chad Kroeger, is an updated grunge outfit. The band combines hoarse yet passionate vocals and distorted guitars with radio-friendly hooks and catchy choruses to create a style of music that individuals who don't like to think too hard about what they're listening to tend to like. The band is often labeled as Canada's answer to Creed, another fairly successful post-grunge band, but while Creed gained popularity with a huge sound and enigmatically pious led singer, Nickelback embraces its small North American town roots with a bit more heartland-style vulnerability.
Brenton Skating Plaza is a unique outdoor ice skating facility and family entertainment venue. The Plaza is located conveniently along The Principal Riverwalk on the Des Moines River waterfront. From November to March, the venue offers people of all ages the chance to ice skate in the open air, amid the snowflakes and under the stars.
Jolly Holiday Lights is a spectacular light display all in a 3.3 mile route through Water Works Park. This annual Make-A-Wish Foundation of Iowa fundraiser has raised millions of dollars, granting wishes to numerous children in Iowa.
The Iowa Cyclones represents the athletic programs and
intercollegiate teams of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.
As a member of the NCAA's Division I, the university competes in the Big 12 Conference, where it fields a number of men's and women's programs in sports such as football, basketball, golf, softball, volleyball, tennis, soccer and wrestling.
