Jack-N-Grill went up the hill to a new location. Formerly on Federal Boulevard, the little Mexican restaurant not far from DIA is a jumping place that serves authentic south-of-the-border food with no apologies. Enjoy chips and salsa while you peruse the menu and wait for your entrée. Don't look for diet anything on the menu, but expect some real gutsy, spicy offerings with names you probably can't pronounce, but tastes that your tongue will thank you for. Add a margarita to your order and reward your courage with a stuffed sopaipilla afterward. After that, you'll be a fluent fan. -Theresa Ludwick
Though it calls itself a "churascaria" (steak house), Texas De Brazil is a meat-eater's paradise. Roasted angus beef, lamb, pork, chicken, and Brazilian sausage – vegetarians may be converted – all of which are carved at your table and served hot with garlic mashed potatoes and fried sweet bananas as well as your choice of additions, from a 40-item salad bar to a variety of sides, appetizers, and desserts. They also serve seafood: lobster tails and shrimp. The atmosphere is fun and lively, as the meat carvers descend on your table at the flip of a green card signaling your readiness.

This family owned pizzeria is a real find. Pictures lining the wall trace the owner's family history, and old record jackets from the 1970s and 1960s hold the menu. You can choose from an array of innovative, thin crust specialty pizzas, including the all veggie Berkley, or build your own creation. Calzones and pasta round out the menu. Beer and wine are available. The hours listed are tentative, because the owners like to say they close when they get tired.
