The county seat of the Lumpkin County of Georgia, Dahlonega is a city with a rich past. The first settlers of the area that was to comprise this city were the Native Americans, mainly the Cherokees and the Creeks. The Georgia Gold Rush, of which Dahlonega was the first site, saw the forced removal of the natives take effect, and the city became a mining hub for seekers of the yellow metal. In fact, the name, ‘Dahlonega’, meaning ‘yellow’ in the Cherokee language, was given owing to the deposits of gold around the city. This rich heritage is still evident in the preserved artifacts and monuments in the city, like the Dahlonega Gold Museum Historic Site. See the website to know more about this city.
