»Battery Point Lighthouse and Museum

Illuminating the night sky for the first time in 1856, Battery Point Lighthouse has served as a beacon of light for sailors on the Pacific Coast for over 150 years. Named after the cannons that were salvaged from a shipwreck and then fired on the Fourth of July, the point is only accessible by foot on a low tide. Many stories and legends tell of a resident ghost that haunts the point with dreadfully heavy sounding footsteps being reported on the stairs during storms. Having become automated in 1953, the lighthouse no longer requires keepers but has caretakers and a marine museum on the premises with breathtaking views. The lighthouse is open to visitors April through September with tides permitting. Visit the website for detailed timings.
