»USS LEXINGTON Museum On The Bay

This retired aircraft carrier was once used as a training facility but is now a floating museum. Resting pleasantly on Corpus Christi Bay, this impressive ship is a sight to see from the coast. There is a free shuttle that takes you from land all the way up a long ramp to the ships hangar entrance. Aboard the ship you will be able to explore the flight deck, the control and navigation rooms and even the captain's quarters. Also on the ship is an extensive World War II and Pearl Harbor exhibit. Be sure to drop by the theater to catch some authentic military footage and exceptional documentaries. The gift shop is a must for souvenirs and military memorabilia.

»Texas State Aquarium

One of the cities main attractions, the Texas State Aquarium is a family favorite. Located on Corpus Christi Bay right next to the entrance to the USS Lexington, the aquarium is a great refuge from the heat of a typical Texas summer day. Exhibits change occasionally featuring exotic sea life and local specimens. Interactive aquariums are a kids favorite as well as the dolphin training demonstrations throughout the day. »Bayfront Science and Arts Park

Located at the northern end of Shoreline Boulevard, this park contains a large part of the city's attractions, all in one convenient place. Here you will find the South Texas Museum of Art with it's iconic pyramid structures on the roof; the American Bank Center where all the big names come to give concerts; the Harbor Playhouse, the Harbor Playhouse and the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History. Also in the summer the Watergarden pumps water all around the entire circular structure and is a welcome retreat from the sweltering heat.

»Watergarden

Along with the Harbor Bridge, the Watergarden is considered one of the iconic landmarks of the city. The circular structure has fountains all around the circumference, water cascades down several steps where there is a large patch of grass. It is particularly stunning at night when it is lit up with a glowing golden light. The perfect place to cool down during the summer, it is also a popular spot for wedding ceremonies.

»Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History

For an educational day out with the kids, visit the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History, located in Bayfront Park in just across from the Art Museum of South Texas. What really draws visitors to this museum are the replicas of the Pinta, Nina and Santa Maria; the ships that Christopher Columbus sailed when he arrived in the Americas. Guided tours of the ships are available every hour and are included in the price of admission. Please note that the ships are not wheelchair accessible, reduced priced tickets are available for those with limited mobility. Aside from the ships, the museum exhibits a number of historical photographs and artifacts, some dating back to precolumbian times. There is even a special section of the museum dedicated to the history of Corpus Christi.

»Harbor Playhouse

Located in beautiful Bayfront Park, the Harbor Playhouse consists of over 250 volunteers and actors that put on about four productions each year. Since 1925 it has been entertaining the citizens and visitors of the city. Performances include contemporary drama, musicals and comedies. Aside from plays, the theater has special events scheduled throughout the year. One of the most popular is the annual Halloween open house featuring actors dressed as ghosts and goblins. Ticket prices are quite reasonable, so it is a great opportunity to catch a bit of culture for a bargain.

»Art Museum of South Texas

This building was designed by Philip Johnson, and is made of poured concrete. This 3-level structure stands majestically by the sea, and houses an interesting permanent collection and an always changing temporary exhibition. Most pieces are American contemporary and include paintings and sculptures. Be sure to look up, some glass sculptures hang from the ceiling! For the little ones there is a children's play area located downstairs. If art makes you hungry, step into the elegant Dobson cafe for a light lunch.

»Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures

Unexpectedly located in the heart of the Texas coastline, the Texas State Asian Cultures Museum exhibits pieces of art and furniture from India, China Sri Lanka, Laos and many more Asian countries. On the Second floor you will find the education center which is aimed towards teaching children about Asian cultures through costumes, storytelling and crafts. Special events are scheduled throughout the year.

»Whataburger Field

Built in 2005, this family friendly baseball field is a favorite summertime destination for locals. Sitting right next to the bay with views of the Harbor Bridge, every seat is a good seat. Reminiscent of old-fashioned fields from baseball's golden age, the facility offers some very thoughtful and modern features. All concession stands are designed so that patrons never have their back to the field and never miss a play. The kids play area features a play ground, scaled down baseball diamond and full sized basketball court. There's even a pool overlooking the field available for groups and parties. Don't forget to stop by the gift shop to pick up your own official Hooks gear.

»Heritage Park & Multicultural Center

This heritage park is the site of nine historical Corpus Christi homes, the oldest dating back to 1851. Many of the homes are recorded Texas Historical Landmarks and all have been beautifully restored and stand a tribute to the ethnic diversity and culture of the area. The Multicultural Center includes the historic Galvan House, the Courtyard, Central Plaza, and the Lytton Memorial Rose Garden.

»Shoreline Promenade

»Miradores del Mar

All along the length of Shoreline Promenade you will find eight gazebo-like structures called Miradores del Mar or "sea watchers". Indeed, these are an ideal spot to gaze out to the gulf, they also provide shelter just in case you get caught in a summer downpour while walking the promenade. These structures are said to reflect similar structures found in Spain and Morocco. The largest of these structures is the Selena Memorial, dedicated to the late, great Tejano singer.
