Established as a memorial to U.S. veterans and one of Georgia's most popular state parks, this park has many features including a museum, a privately operated conference center with 78 lodge rooms, ten cottages, and a restaurant, an 18 hole golf course and pro shop, and access to the 8,700 acre Lake Blackshear. The SAM Shortline Excursion Train runs through the park on its way from Cordele to Plains.
The Giant Peanut Monument, located in Sycamore represents the importance this bean has for the people of Georgia. Known to be the country's most productive agricultural product, the peanut is celebrated through this creation, made by A.R. Smith, Jr. Unveiled in 1975, this monument also pays tribute to Nora Lawrence Smith, who is known for her work for the local community.
