Held at the 7th Avenue Pond in downtown Canmore, this family friendly, and alcohol-free event is a highlight of the holiday season. Join the Canmorites for a night filled with music, hot chocolate and hot dogs, ice skating, waggon rides, roving entertainers and an all-night bonfire. There are plenty of activities for children, including a mini-fireworks display among other things. The big booms come at midnight, however, when the Fireworks Grand Finale at Millennium Park kicks off. Admission is free. Check the town's website for more details.
What better place to hold an ice sculpture competition than on a frozen lake at the base of a stunning glacier. This internationally renowned event draws talented ice artists from around the world. Watch as they chip, carve and saw 140-kilogram blocks of ice into works of art. The competition is centered around the beautiful Chateau Lake Louise, but carving sites are scattered around the Lake Louise area. Come watch the artists at work, and view their masterpieces until March when the spring sun melts them away. Free admission.
