»Sacred Heart Church

The origins of the Sacred Heart Church date back to the late 1800's when Catholics who had settled in the area found themselves in need of a place to worship originating with the German settlers who wished to establish a parish with national character, it eventually came to incorporate families from various European communities including Irish, Italian, Lithuanian, Polish and several more. The church underwent relocation and modification several times until the current structure. The current building features several aspects of the original fore-bearers including a high steeple. Notice the insignia found above the Corpus on the crucifix which dates back to 1872. Stained glass windows also recreate some of the old features from earlier structures and pays homage to two of the main patron saints, St. Patrick and St. Boniface. Mass is held at 4.30p on Saturdays and 7:30a, 9a, 10:30a and noon on Sundays including a Polish service on alternate Sundays. Daily mass is also offered at 9a on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 7:30a on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Besides this the church also offers Sunday schools, baptism services, marriage rites and various outreach programs.
