Local H is a rock and roll duo that was formed in Zion, Illinois by lead vocalist and guitarist Scott Lucas and drummer Joe Daniels in 1987. The band signed a contract with Island Records in 1994 and released its debut album Ham Fisted, in 1995 with a grunge-inspired punk rock sound. After promoting the record with an extensive show schedule, Local H entered the studio again to record its 1996 album As Good as Dead, which earned widespread attention for its lead single "Bound for the Floor." Though Daniels left the group in 1999, Lucas has since been joined by drummer Ryan Harding and continues to release music as Local H, including the 2012 LP,Hallelujah! I'm a Bum.

Return To The Forbidden Planet
Jedlicka Performing Arts Center April 18, 2015 7:30 PM
3801 South Central Avenue
Cicero, IL 60804
Rarely produced sci-fi songfest "Return to the Forbidden Planet" was originally billed as "Shakespeare's forgotten rock-n-roll musical." The script by Bob Carlton is loosely based on the 1956 classic "B" movie "Forbidden Planet" which, in turn, is loosely based on William Shakespeare's "The Tempest". The play features a kitschy setting and a soundtrack full of '50s and '60s rock 'n' roll hits from the Animals, the Byrds, the Beach Boys and more. The campy juke-box musical redux won the Olivier Award for Best Musical when it first opened on London's West End in 1989 and now it makes its Chicago-area premiere at the Jedlicka Performing Arts Center in Cicero.

New Philharmonic: Bach To Bock
McAninch Arts CenterApril 18, 2015 8:00 PM
425 Fawell Boulevard
Glen Ellyn, IL 60137
The opening cadenza from "Fiddler on the Roof" is one of the most recognizable pieces of violin music from film. Composer John Williams recently published new edits to the movie's cadenzas with the help of CSO Assistant Concert Master David Taylor, who will perform them with the New Philharmonic at McAninch Arts Center. You'll also get to hear a piece by Bach, Vaughan-Williams's "The Lark Ascending" and Mendelssohn's wedding march from "Midsummer Night's Dream". The concert closes with the Mendelssohn's third, the joyous "Scottish Symphony."

Monty Python's Spamalot
Madison Street TheatreApril 18, 2015 7:30 PM
1010 Madison Street
Chicago, IL 60302
"Monty Python's Spamalot" is a hilariously over-the-top extravaganza, penned by Monty Python alum Eric Idle, that borrows lovingly (and unapologetically) from the film classic "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". In telling the tale of King Arthur and his epic quest with the Knights of the Round Table, this endlessly amusing musical -- which won three Tony Awards, including Best Musical, during its original Broadway run -- features such outlandish oddities as flatulent Frenchmen, flying cows, killer rabbits and The Knights Who Say Ni. If you're in need of a reminder to "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life," look no further than the Holy Grail of musical comedies that is "Monty Python's Spamalot" -- presented at the Madison Street Theatre by Artists of Concordia Theatre.
