Employment Success and Social Inclusion For People With Disabilities
Tinley Park Convention CenterMarch 10, 2015 8:30 AM
18501 S Harlem Avenue
Tinley Park, IL 60477
Employment First refers to having community employment be the primary expected goal for working-age adults with disabilities in government-funded day services and for those services to support that realization of that goal. Yet most people with disabilities are still subject to low expectations for employment, housing, and being a part of their communities. One way to view this issue is through the lens of social perceptions and how the disability service system can isolate individuals through labeling, segregation, and grouping people of like-disability. This presentation discusses these issues and covers key elements needed to support Employment First, from agency-level restructuring to using current strategies for Career and Job Development and On-the-Job Support.  8:00 - 8:30 a.m. - Registration and Coffee 8:30 - 10:00 a.m. - The Role of Employment in Life Quality  10:00 - 10:15 a.m. -  Break 10:15 - 11:45 a.m.  - Understanding the Employment First Movement 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. - Lunch is included in the fee.
