Through purchases, gifts, or bequeathals, this museum was able to assemble more than 5000 objects (uniforms, arms, tools, furniture, engravings, and paintings) which give testimony to the life and times of the customs officer. In following the evolution of this oldest of French administrations, this museum lets visitors discover the political and economic life of France, from the Ancient Regime to present day. The working procedure of the customs service is shown as well its contemporary mission.
Opened in 2007 by Françoise Delaporte and others, Galerie des Bahutiers constantly collaborates with art galleries across France and Europe, thereby getting sufficient exposure for Bordeaux's local artist community. Although primarily a fine art and scultpure gallery, it also welcomes others visual arts like photography and similar creative installations.
This museum was created in 1967 by Jacques Chaban Delmas, the old mayor of Bordeaux and Résistant during the war. It comprises three levels of collections celebrating the Résistance, the Déportation, and the Forces Françaises Libres during Xorld War II. It has a documentation center integrated into the museum that offers the public documents from the period (posters, clandestine correspondence, armament...) and objects which allow viewers to remember or discover this period of history. Many artists have expositions here, featuring photography, drawings, paintings, or sculptures linked thematically to the Déportation. An educational service, managed by an accredited history professor, insures accurate commentary throughout the museum.
La Mauvaise Réputation, Bad Reputation,' is an extravagant combination of bookstore and art gallery. It offers a very unique mix of original and rare books on topics such as art, homosexuality, eroticism and many more. The storekeepers pay special attention to small editions. Atelier-galerie Cristina is a gallery named after artist Cristina. On display here are not only works by Cristina but other well known artists as well. She organizes exhibitions for artists, children, teachers and other groups. Her studio is associated with Atelier Oscar Lopez to display other artists works.
