Veterans Memorial Hall is a landmark structure commemorating veterans of all wars in Winnebago County. Dedicated in 1903 by President Theodore Roosevelt, it is one of the first of its kind in the state of Illinois and built in Greek revival and classical architectural styles. It showcases a collection of war artifacts, well-preserved over the years, that offer a glimpse into the country's history. The hall can be rented out for private and social events.
The Tinker Swiss Cottage belonged to the Tinker family and is now a popular house museum. Here, you can explore the museum's exhibits, the barn and so forth. For event updates and other details, call ahead or check website.
Sterling North Home and Museum is the restored childhood home of its namesake author who was best known for his children's book, Rascal. Adorned with period decor, the house was the setting of his classic book. It also features many family photos and artifacts. The home was in neglect for several years before it was renovated by a local non profit organization who wanted to preserve the historic house. It opened its doors in 1997 and welcomes everyone on Sunday afternoons from April to December.
