Popularly known as Amendoim (Portuguese for peanut
) Street, Professor Otávio Magalhaes Street is a rather peculiar place. It attracts thousands of visitors every month who want to witness its curious optical illusion that makes people believe cars in neutral gear are rolling uphill. Some locals claim that this is a result of magnetism generated by the high quantity of minerals in the nearby Curral Hills. That, however, is not true according to physicists who explained the phenomenon, saying that what causes it is the difference between the inclination of the road and the height of the city. This creates the bizarre illusion that you are going uphill when you are actually going down. Worth checking out and experimenting!
