»Seabound w/ Architect

March 31, 2015 7:00 PM

Seabound, the moniker under which the duo of Frank Spinath (vocals) and Martin Vorbrodt (electronics) collaborate, is one of the most highly regarded acts in the dark electronic scene. A unique ability to combine cutting edge, modern music and emotional vocals and lyrics to create an atmospheric, compelling work separate Seabound from its contemporaries. Speak In Storms is possibly Seabounds strongest effort to date. It is cohesive, with the ominous tension started in early tracks like “For Life” and “Contraband.” The tension keeps building through to the danceable “Everything,” which seems to be a deep exhalation of breath, a release. The relief is short lived, as “Lair” builds once again from the darker atmospherics, taking the listener once again into the moody world of Seabound. Speak in Storms is a compelling piece of work; it’s the sound of broken dreams, of loss and anger, and, of course, love.

»Zappa Plays Zappa

March 31, 2015 7:30 PM

Frank Zappa was one of the most prolific avant-garde musicians to have ever lived. From his early days in the 1960s with his group The Mothers of Invention, up until his death from prostate cancer in 1993, Zappa managed to constantly stay productive by releasing a constant onslaught of interesting jazz-inspired, progressive rock. Ever the professional, Zappa was legendary for recruiting only top shelf musicians to record and tour with, and the music on any of his albums is blatant evidence of this. In an effort to recreate the impressive arrangements Zappa created, his son, Dweezil Zappa, created a tribute act called Zappa Plays Zappa in 2006 and since then the group has built a solid reputation for its dutiful live renderings of vintage Zappa classics.
