»Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Festival 2014

    September 21, 2014 5:00 PM

Marc Maron is an American stand-up comedian and podcast host originally from New Jersey. In the 1990s, Maron built his reputation within the crowded New York City comedy scene, eventually landing an audition for Saturday Night Live in 1995. Although he didn't get the job, more opportunities quickly arose, including an appearance on Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist. Maron's style thrives on anger, fearless honesty and self-deprecation as he rants about social interaction, politics and his own neurotic tendencies. In 2009, he found a new outlet for his material in the form of the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, which captures funny and sometimes painfully honest conversations between Maron and fellow members of the comedy and entertainment world.

    September 21, 2014 11:00 PM

Code Orange (once Code Orange Kids) is a hardcore punk band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that was formed in 2008. Though the band started off with the straightforward punk aesthetic found on its early demos, it slowly began to sew elements of doom metal into its music, resulting in an abrasive hybrid of heavy metal and post hardcore. After solidifying it sound and live performances, Code Orange Kids dropped its debut full-length offering, Love Is Love/Return to Dust, in 2012.

Operating under the name 12th Planet, Los Angeles electronic producer, John Dadzie, has been passionately championing the dubstep sound since it emerged in the US in the late 2000s. Dadzie co-counded the reputable electronic record label SMOG and hosts a monthly DJ night in Orange Country devoted to high profile and up-and-coming dubstep artists. In his own work, he incorporates twinkly vibraphone and piano lines into the typical dubstep formula of deep bass tones, spliced vocal samples and breakbeat style drums. Dadzie is also frequently commissioned for remix work for both electronic and rap artists.

The United Kingdom in the 1990s was a breeding ground for innovative electronic music. Jungle, drum & bass and 2-step were all being pioneered and toyed with by the leading producers and DJs of the day. During this time Steve Goodman (known to many by his stage name Kode9) was working on a style of music called dubstep. This style of music would come to define the electronic music scene in the 2000s and would lift Goodman to international acclaim. Goodman's success also let him form his own record label, the well respected Hyperdub, which has since launched the careers of several influential dubstep artists.

    »Jon Dee Graham

    September 21, 2014 10:15 PM

Austin, Texas-based musician John Dee Graham is something of a local legend in the Lone Star State. Graham has hardly ever ventured outside of his home state, but was voted SXSW's 2006 musician of the year and plays hundreds of shows annually. Graham makes straight-ahead rock & roll music with countrified lyrical spirit, fueled in large part by his smoker voice.
