»Home In Her Heart

February 11, 2015 7:30 PM

Margaret Morrison's provocative love story, "Home in Her Heart", returns to New York City's Stage Left starring Morrison and once again directed by Cheryl King, but this time with a new production, script and award-winning co-star Ava Jenkins. Set in London in 1939, "Home in Her Heart" explores the loving bond between lesbian couple Jimmie and Claire, a white male impersonator and a black pianist, as they prepare to return to the U.S. Though they've lived and performed together as a nightclub act for several years, the looming war and the racial and homophobic hatred they'll undoubtedly face at home threatens to derail their relationship.

Whilst taking time to work on a full length LP for Night Slugs, Girl Unit released the fifth installment of the Club Constructions series under the Hysterics moniker. The project was intended to act as a separate outlet for a more physical, dance floor focused sound, sought from a series of machine jams recorded with various bits of analogue equipment in his studio. Operating under the guidelines of the Club Constructions template, the Hysterics EP repurposes the sounds of heavy industry for the club environment. »Die Fledermaus

February 15, 2015 6:00 PM

Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus (English translation: The Bat) first premiered in Vienna in 1874. It is an operetta in three acts revolving around mistaken identity, sacrifice for love, and, of course, betrayal. The events of the show are sparked when Dr. Eisenstein is preparing to spend a week in jail due to a minor incident and his attorney's incompetence. A series of comic mishaps ensues as he tries to enjoy a ball on his last night of freedom. There have been numerous film adaptations of this remarkable piece, which has a number of classic musical trios, a representing the love triangle at the heart of the show.
