The wise folks on the Everett City Council decided in 1998 to refurbish this park, which was certainly looking the worse for wear. Fortunately, the overhaul has done a lot to bring it back to life. Its new playground is one of the biggest in the area, and the summer music program for children is very popular and runs on Tuesdays at noon throughout the summer months. The park is also home to a public golf course.

Nothing says "Pacific Northwest" like a rocky beach leading up to an old-fashioned white lighthouse. That's exactly what you'll find at Mukilteo Lighthouse Park. The lighthouse itself, which turned 100 years old in 2008, is open for tours on weekends during the spring and summer months. The park has about a mile of gravelly beach, a large grass meadow for kite-flying, and plenty of picnic tables, grills, and fire pits. It's everything you'd need for a day of fun at the beach, Northwest-style. That being said, the water in Puget Sound is never really warm enough for swimming, so you'll only need to pack your bathing suit if you plan on working on your tan.

If you find yourself in Mukilteo (about 20 minutes north of Seattle) and in need of a good workout, the Mukilteo YMCA is hands-down the best, most comprehensive gym you could ask for. Visitors to the area can purchase a day pass and enjoy access to all the facilities, which include a 25-yard indoor pool, gymnasium for playing basketball, and racquetball courts. Most people will probably get the most out of the expansive workout room with treadmills, elliptical machines, rowing machines, weight lifting machines, free weights, and just about anything else you'd need for a great aerobic or weightlifting workout. - Katie Kinney
