Blending a number of genres that seems to speak to the very core of Southern California style including surf rock and psychedelic, the Los Angeles-based band Mystic Braces (née Blackfoot Braves) has latched onto a sounds that pays homage to the group's geographical epicenter.The band released its self-titled debut album in 2012 and the LP's stoner-friendly blend of hazy production aesthetics and textured guitar arrangements helped distinguish the Mystic Braves apart from the myriad of other acts out there on the sprawling Los Angeles music scene.
American metalcore band named after a character in The Neverending Story, Atreyu leans toward the aggressive end of the melodic heavy metal spectrum. The five-piece band from Orange County consists of Alex Varkatzas, Dan Jacobs, Travis Miguel, Mark McKnight and Brandon Saller. The band released its debut EP Visions, independently in 1998 then went on to release three studio albums under Victory Records and two more under both Hollywood and the international Roadrunner Records. In 2011, Varkatzas took to Twitter to announce that Atreyu would be going on an indefinite hiatus from recording and touring.
